Review - Zotero

This is the tool that I was the most excited about after seeing the demonstration in class, especially since it's supposed to be compatible with both Mozilla and OpenOffice, which are what I use. However, I am finding that the reality is a little more complicated. The most recent version isn't entirely compatible with the most recent version of OpenOffice, although I am finding that most of the functions work...most of the time. The in-browser tool for capturing web pages and pdfs doesn't seem to actually work. I was able to click it the first couple of times, but after that, it would stall out and crash the browser. Reinstalling didn't help. However, if I go through the main Zotero window from the bottom of the browser, I can still capture .pdfs just fine. And once they're in there, I have to admit that I love the ease of use regarding organization and documents. I believe that this will be particularly valuable when using this program for major articles with large lit reviews; keeping track of 30+ articles is never fun at the best of times.

Over all, I'd give Zotero a C+, only because of the issues I had with compatibility and having the quick button actually work in the browser. Outside of that, it's pretty awesome.
